New Colossus

Here's a thought for these dark times. If you truly want to make America great again don't pick up a torch and join the mob wanting to tear it all down. Do not believe the words of men with golden tongues who speak words of hatred and division, whose goal is only for their own vanity.

Instead remember the words written many years ago and dedicated to a New Colossus which too could be said to be an immigrant herself having been conceived in foreign lands.

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
                                                                                   ~Emma Lazarus

With that in mind, again do not pick up torches in anger but hold up lanterns in welcome to light the Way for others all over the world to again find these golden doors of promise. Where liberty, freedom and justice once reigned, and can so again.
