Kowloon
Kowloon city does indeed have much secrecy and mystique. While it was by no means perfect and quite horrid in many ways it still was a display of a much bigger collective process. The rhizome analogy proves true in that Kowloon seems also like an offshoot of human need and consciousness and while that particular physical manifestation was removed it’s roots/spirit continue on in collective consciousness manifesting again wherever it can grow. Its memory and concept, so powerful that it has inspired creations that then themselves inspired others. Delve into pretty much anything in the cyberpunk genre and you will see cities imagined and described fairly similar to Kowloon. The rhizome continues to grow.
A version of Kowloon can also be found in Second life: https://kowloonswall.wordpress.com/2022/01/30/welcome-to-kowloon-sim/
Of course it's not the same as the original or the video game that then inspired the region, but it's not completely different either.
