A little step that improves the world.
Came across this Cal Matters article talking about two new murals that were painted last month at California's notorious San Quintin prison:
How San Quentin prisoners reached around the world to bring ‘a piece of freedom’ insideSome would ask why should we spend money on art for prisoners?
I immediately see the benefit. Art is one way all of us can connect and then hopefully collaborate to create a vision of a better reality. Bleak sterile walls do not facilitate that and really are detrimental to a prisoners rehabilitation.
Because for most crimes rehabilitation is still the point right? While for everyone's safety we must constrain criminals we should never restrain their minds to dream of a better future for themselves and others, together. Through those dreams healing and the path to redemption can begin.
